New to 5000's. Changing the transmission fuild and I find I have a leak from underneath the casing. The leak is coming from a small hole in the case about 12 " in front of the tranny drain plug. There is cotter pin sticking out as if it is attached to something in the case. I cannot find anything in the manuals that address this. Appreciate any input and ideas. Photo attached.

Welcome to the forums.

That appears to be the typical "jiggle" pin in the drain hole for the clutch compartment. The drain is intended to let oil and moisture out of that area to avoid contaminating the clutch. The bent cotter pin is loose in the hole, and it keeps the hole open as it "jiggles" around during operation. Of course, too much dirt in the mix can cause the pin to stick and the hole to plug allowing oil and moisture to build up in the area.

Black oil dripping out can indicate an engine rear main seal leaking. Brown/amber oil generally indicates a leak from the transmission, often the input shaft seals.

A split is required to determine the source and repair the leak. How bad the drip is can determine how soon one decides to make the repair.

That’s the clutch housing weep hole, it allows any moisture or oil to weep out and not built up inside the housing. The color of the oil on the cotter pin looks to be hydraulic fluid, this indicates a transmission input shaft seal is leaking. Unfortunately the only fix is to split the tractor to replace the seals

I have had a few tractors come through where the trans is over filled and they leak out this weep hole. Simply pulling the check plug and letting the "over fill" drain out,,,, fixed this problem... Thus making me wonder if the over fill was due to error or due to water egress over time. If due to water egress, then you really need to drain and refill the trans with utf... I have had many more tractors come through with the rear engine seal leaking. A hd diesel oil change and a full day of working them will sometimes cut the drip down significantly, and other times have no effect other than a long due oil change be implemented.. In those cases you usually live with inconvenience as the tractor marks it territory.. And if its just pouring oil, You usually have many many other problems to fix and need to go through it anyway. I dont usually bring home tractors with incontinence but have taken on a few free ones. And free tractors end up costing you dearly as you will never make back you investements.
