Ford 555 Backhoe Help

I've bought some equipment from an older guy over in the next county (about 30-35 miles away), he has a Ford 555 backhoe that he would sell, it has
been sitting out for 6+ years. Today me and a diesel mechanic friend of mine went to try to get it to start, we had to take a 950 CCA battery with us,
the key was lost so a screwdriver at the starter was all we could do to turn it over, the fuel filter had some water drain out of it before red fuel
came out, problem was we could not get any fuel to the injector pump, even running a hose in a fuel can straight to the filter would not do anything.
I'm afraid the pump is bad or something has froze and busted. The backhoe looks good, has new tires all the way around, comes with 4 back buckets. I
can buy the machine for $1000 (or less) but i'll have several hundred in getting it home, then any repairs.

I"ll be honest, i have NO clue what to do, its literally a flip of a coin, might could part it out, i don't want to loose a ton of money. Even the
mechanic didn't know what to do, The tires and buckets alone are worth the money but i don't need a money pit, although i did bring home a 20 ton wood
splitter for $100!!! Any ideas or wisdom?

It makes it very difficult when one does not know the history, was the machine running ok before it was parked if so the most likely reason it will not start now that the stop was left pulled out and now the fuel metering valve is stuck in the stop position even though the cable is in run,you may have to remove the governor cover to free it,if there is water in the filters fuel will not go through them, put some new filters on and bleed the system,it would be wise to drain the tank as that's the only route water can get in the fuel.

Yeah the guy said it was running good when it was parked, the stop was pushed in when i got on it the other day. I think i'll try to mess with it
more one day this week and if its still giving trouble it might not follow me home!

If it's the DPS rotary pump metering valve will be stuck on if pump has the electric shut down solenoid. Pump may also have stuck plungers from setting awhile too, and only a complete tear down and repair will hopefully get it working again. Look at the pump tag, if the dispatch/model number starts with 85 it's the DPS pump.

$1000.00,four buckets and new tires and you are afraid to buy it. That machine would easily bring 4 grand in my neck of the woods, not running. I'd be all over it for that price.

Yep I agree with welding man. Even the cylinders on the loader and hoe are worth more than a 1000.

I have a 555 that sat for a few years before I bought it that had a similar problem. I had to have the injector pump rebuilt.
At $1000 it's a no brainer. That machine in my area would bring $8000-10,000 in running condition in a heartbeat. Or you could buy it to part out and get a nice return on your investment.

I had a 555B ? IIRC it was a nice machine. I was doing some work on it and also changed the fuel filters. I had one devil of a time getting that thing running again ! I think I may of had to pressurize the tank with some air to get it bleed out ?
