The original subject was Ford 555B
backhoe front axle assembly.

Well I realize it has been a while but here is an update. The transmission was pooched as
well as the convertor. I sent it out
to a shop to have it rebuilt after changing the front end out to a 2wd. I ordered all of the parts to completely rebuild the
transmission as well as rebuilding the torque convertor. I received a call from him just before Christmas letting me know that
I need to come and get it out of his way AFTER he took it all apart and refuses to rebuild it. I am now preparing to go and
get
the pieces and pray I get them all back in order to do it all myself. I also know that in pieces without being the one to take
it apart it is going to be a challenge to get it back together. With that in mind I went out and picked up another hoe that is
a straight 555. The tractor is all there but has been changed to a loader tractor with a weight box on the rear. I am HOPING
the transmissions are the same or at least similar enough to be able to remove that one as well and either rebuild it or use
the parts from it to build the original without having to much issue.

Just FYI, the 555, 555A, and 555B could be special ordered with a counterweight instead of the Hoe, been away from them over 20 years, but the biggest difference in the transmissions was that the B was synchronized, I believe they would interchange, but you really need someone who has been around them more lately

(quoted from post at 16:05:25 03/04/23) I know the b has the electric disconnect but my main concern is the differences on the internals.

Whats the build date of your 555. Around October of 1981 the shuttle had a design change. Oil divider, clutches and drum. You'll have to match up the parts to see what's the same and what's not. I'd wait until you get the B's transmission in possession to see what's torn down. Much of the crash box may be intact and you can put her back together yourself.

Well, got a few minutes to work on the 555 last weekend. Put a battery on it and it turned over very slowly then stopped. Figured the starter gave up the ghost so I replaced the starter today and had the injectors tested yesterday just to be sure there would be no issue if it did try and start. WELL, outcome was it would not turn over with the injectors removed. Ran a screwdriver down the injector holes only to discover that number 2 was filled with water. Figured it hydralocked when we were turning it over last weekend. Blew out all of the water and still no turn with injectors removed. checked all valves and none are seized so blew out all of the water with compressed air and gave it a drink of brake fluid. Will let tha soak for a day or two and follow up with a dose of diesel fuel and likely a shot of transmission fluid just for good measure. Removing the starter tomorrow and trying to back the engine up so that the diesel and brake fluid can get to the spot on the cylinder wall that has it hung up.
