Ford 600 carburetor

My Ford 600 tractor will not start. The carburetor has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, new kit installed, and remounted. The tank has been flushed and filled with new premium gas. The gas gets to the carburetor but no further. The spark plugs have been removed, a little gas put into each cylinder, and the plugs reinstalled. The tractor will start, but will die once the gas in the cylinders has been burned. What should I look for next in the troubleshoot effort? TIA.

Welcome hiramelu!

A quick and easy test, remove the coil wire from the distributor and ground it.

Take the air cleaner off the carb, open the throttle and choke. Hold your hand tightly over the air inlet and have an assistant crank the engine through.

You should get a strong, steady vacuum and your hand wet with gas.

If no vacuum, or pulsing vacuum, there is a valve problem or major vacuum leak.

If good vacuum and no gas, there is a fuel problem.

There is a drain plug in the bottom of the carb. Pull the plug and see if there is fuel in the bowl. If there is no fuel pump, the fuel should run in a continuous stream, not slow to a drip or stop. If there is a fuel pump, cranking the engine through should initiate a new flow through the carb with the plug out.

If no fuel in the bowl, back track the problem toward the tank. Check the float for proper adjustment, be sure it is not bent and touching the inside of the bowl.

If fuel in the bowl, and none getting through the carb, check the main jet. It may be clogged. Dried ethanol must be scraped out of the jets, cleaner and air will not get all of it out. Also be sure the tip of the adjustment screw isn't broke off in the main jet.

Hope this helps...
