Ford 641 won't start

I have no spark at my coil on my 641...I replaced the coil and the volatage regulator...still won't start. It is a 6v tractor. Any suggestions...not too long ago I replaced the points.

Voltage regulator has nothing to do with starting.

Hook a jumper wire from the battery to the coil
- side of the battery to + side of the coil. Let us know if it has spark.
Quit throwing new parts at it till you figure out what the problem is.

Jo,Are you running a ballast resistor between the coil and the points?You may have burnt out the points or the condenser if you're not.I would check for fire across the points, (with the dist. cap off)crank the engine over and see if the points are firing,if not file the points,regap and if still no fire,replace the condensor.

quit repalcing parts before you go broke.

as 36 said, the vreg has nothing to do with the ignition.. you can cut all the wires off it and chuck it in the pasture and still start the tractor.

as UD said.. jump power from the bat to the coil.. make sure the wire from the coil to the distrib is intact. see if you get spark. if not, put a test lamp in line from wire from batttery to coil.. run engine over.. lamp should blink.. if always on, points are shorted.. possibilities are closed up points, bad insulator at side of distrib, or condensor.

if lamp never comes on.. check conductor from side of distrib to points.
