ford 642 throttle

old blue 642

Hey I have a Ford 642 combine with 1600 original engine hours, but the throttle linkage is not right. Does anyone have a picture or manual of how this is suppose to go?

I saw your last post and just havent had a spare minute to take pictures for you.I have two that have the linkage just like it came from the factory that I will post pictures of just as soon as I can.I will say that even like it is supposed to be the throttle setup does not work the greatest when the bolts in the joints get a little wear in them.Where are you from? What year is your 642?Any pictures?(dont worry I wont laugh no matter how ugly it might be)

I live up here in Alberta Canada, and we are just finishing up harvest here, so we are going pretty hard too. My 642 I believe is a 74ish, the serial number is 642000952 My uncle bought it new, so it has stayed pretty close to home. Where are you located?

These pictures I took just a few days ago, after we had finished one barley field.

Man yall sure do have some good looking 642's in Canada!Great looking combine for its age.It should be a 1974 model because from what I learned all the 642"s with the white extensions on the hopper were late late 1973 on.I run two 642's here in central Georgia,U.S.A. and one of mine was built right around the time yours was.The last numbers of the serial is 833.I still will get you the pictures of the throttle linkage over the weekend.Where do you buy parts for your 642?What about engine parts?By the way I like the pickup head.Is it homemade or a storebought add on to the Ford head?Sorry about all the questions but I love to talk 642'S.

Oh, I don't mind the questions, I enjoy talking about them as well, they are kind of a unique machine. As far as parts go honestly, except for belts and bearings, where we can get anywhere, we havn't had to put much into it. There is a Claas dealer about an hour away if we need somthing major. Engine parts we can get just at the newholland dealer. I had to put a water pump in it this year, but thats about it. This combine has sat for over half of its life, and there aren't many aorund in this area. Are there many around in your area? The pickup header was put on the combine when it was new, the dealer brought them in like that. Its called a Melroe 351, and were very popular on combines in the 70's and 80's around here. The ford header is the 13ft straight cut header without the knife or reel I would like to find an original, bigger straight cut header for it somtime. Do you got any pics of your machines? It would be interesting to see some other 642's

Good looking machine I really like to see these old machines in use, back in the late seventy's and early eighty's we had a man custom cut for us and he had two Ford machines don't know the #'s but looked like yours I think they had around 20ft headers, my newest machine I run is a 1970 Case 1660, great post and good cutting Tom

Here in Ga there was a good Ford dealer and he sold a bunch of them.I have been buying the ones that I can find for parts.I have 6 for parts and two that I run. There are some pictures on this board of both of mine. One is combining 200 bushel corn in 2005 and the other is a pic of one cutting beans with a J.D. row crop head.
