Ford 655d question.

This is my first torque converter transmission so when I'm at idle and put the shuttle shifter in forward or reverse at idle it starts pulling is this normal? I would think when you give it fuel it will start to pull.

Ideally it shouldn't move at idle. Is
your idle too high?

No the idle was definitely very low my tachometer isn't working yet so I would say 80 600 800 RPMs. So my next question what would cause this? It has brand new clutches and disc with the proper clearance and also a rebuilt torque converter.

Is the torque converter lock up engaged ? button is on the end of F-N-R lever

To be honest I'm not sure looking at the book it doesn't show the 655d having a lock up solenoid only the 8x8 transmission but I do have a button on the end of my shuttle
Shifter. I have four solenoids on the transmission that I'm aware of Ford and reverse solenoids and two solenoids on top that I'm guessing is safety switch solenoids.

I just tested mine out, yeah it creeps a
bit at idle when shuttle engaged. I would
say nothing to worry about.

The modulator is suppose to provide smooth shuttle shifts, maybe it didn't get reconnected or something.

Yes sir I noticed that in the book and I'm going to test my voltage coming out of the modulator and see if it's a slow increase of voltage to the solenoid. I thought about that but even so it shouldn't be pulling so I'm not sure why it's pulling at idle don't think it has a torque converter lockup I'm still researching.

I still haven't solved the problem. The previous owner claim they rebuilt the forward and reverse solenoids I noticed there's a nut with a set screw on both of those does anyone know what that's for? I just don't know what else could cause this issue it'll pull a hill at idle.

Usually this problem is the other way about, are you saying with the engine on low idle when you put it into forward it takes off with a jerk, if that's the case you would need to be sure the engine rpm is set to spec, no guessing, if it's correct lift the machine up off the wheels, parking brake off, machine in gear, shuttle in neutral, engine on low idle see if the wheels are trying to drive, OK, stop engine, grab a back wheel move it to and fro check for any slop in the power line that could be causing the jerk, does it do the same in reverse?.

Thanks for everyone's help. Yes it does it
in forward and reverse. The idle is very
low I don't have a tack but I have a way
to find out how many RPMs. I've been
working on machinery for many years but
this has me stumped. There is no clang or
anything like that it's just a instant
firm forward and reverse. It will pull a
incline at idle but if it's too steep it
will stop but it will not roll backwards.
Reverse does the same but it will stop
pulling sooner going up a hill then
forward. I don't have any brakes at this
time that's my next project.
