Ford 7000 tach drive

I haven t been able to get my tachometer drive to work for the longest time, I do not have a tach drive that is shown in the cnh parts manual/whatever it is I will attach pictures below on how it works, have been able to spin the tach shaft with my hand and a drill and it will spin the cable end at the cluster but once hooked up and running it doesn t work. Any ideas or does someone have one EXACTLY. like mine for sale? (I have had issue with the tachs I have previously bought and they haven t worked). Thanks! Too all for past and present help!

Would you happen to have a better picture than the manual? I just bought today one of those drive like keys and it didn t work with my end that s goes into the fuel pump. It was made out of hard plastic and didn t seem to serve a point with the type of tach I have

I don't have a good pic of one - sorry. Did you get the one from NH with the correct part number?

Another place you might try is a business that services fuel injection pumps.

Yea I have a local new holland dealer and they swore up and down that the little piece I got was to connect my tach cable to the top of my tachometer drive and it still didn t work like they said it should. I feel like my tach drive shaft is not catching in the slot as the "key way" I call it is very worn down and doesn t seem to work as well as it used to

If your engine block is late enough to be able to accept a 7600 style tach drive underneath the oil filter,
I think I would convert it over to that. You *might* have to get a reverse-rotation tach as well however in
order to make it work.

IIRC,, I believe this aftermarket adapter is the one I used many many years ago.. Its used for an automatic transmission adapter, but worked on the 7000 injector pump..

Yea this is what my new holland dealer sold me, said it needed to go on cable end of tach drive did not fix issue as it did not fit on either ends of the tach or cable. Any other ideas? Can send more detailed pictures later of tach end that goes into injector pump and cable end that goes into tach

Let's first of all determine whether or not you can convert it to a 7600 style tach drive. Take a look at
the plug in the block directly under the oil filter. Does it have a big one-inch or so hex drive in the
center of it (#17) or is it a simple cup plug (17B)? According to the parts book, most 7000 blocks should
have the cup plug, which means you should be able to put the later tach drive in it.

The only problem with my plan is that you'd have to swap your tach over for reverse rotation. But, if you
want a tach bad enough...

Another option is to drill your transmission housing for an electronic tach. The sender mounted in this
hole would be busy counting ring gear teeth. It would be spot-on accurate, however you'd have to remote
mount the tach somewhere else.

Yes it has that cup style plug. How would I go about making it a reverse rotation tack drive though? Would it require a lot of work or time and money? Thank you

You would need all of the parts for a 7600 shown in #21 in the link below, along with an oil pump drive
gear. In addition, you would need a different tach because the cable will now spin backwards compared to the
one you have now.

Your best bet would be to find a complete kit from a tractor at a wrecking yard.
