Ford 723 backhoe attachment

Would a Ford 723 backhoe attachment with mounting brackets off a 74 Ford 4000 industrial fit on my Ford 4000 SOS 4 cylinder gas tractor? If so what powers the hydraulics. My tractor has a bucket on it now powered by a pump on the front of the tractor.

I believe the 723 attaches to the loader frame that goes with it. It gets powered by a "power over" valve meaning the hydraulic fluid goes to the hoe first then returns to the loader. There could ve variations, however, for all I know.

I've seen several variations. My 4 cyl. 4000 TLB has a front-mounted pump and a knob on the valve body that is pushed in to power the loader or pulled out to power the backhoe. I've also seen rear-mounted pumps run off the PTO to power one or both accessories. I've also seen valve bodies that can power both at the same time without pushing or pulling the switching valve that I have.

Here is a diagram of the Ford kit to share the front pump hydraulics between the loader and the backhoe. #12 is a diverter valve - push in to use the loader and pull out to use the backhoe. 20 and 26 are the hydraulic lines to the backhoe. The assembly is mounted to the loader frame.

My 4000 industrial TLB uses the front mounted pump as illustrated in the diagram below. It would probably work if you had all the brackets and subframe members. That back hoe is a lot of extra weight back there. I would not be concerned about hydraulics but the added stress to the lighter axels of the ag tractor(both front and rear).

Hello Douglas , First off there is no such thing as a 74 Ford 4000 Industrial if it is a 74 it is a 3550 Industrial or a 4500 Industrial . Is it 3 cylinder or 4 cylinder ? Get the model and serial number off the transmission to figure out what you really have to begin with . What is the model and serial number of your Ford 4000 SOS Gas tractor ? is it AG , Light Duty Industrial or Heavy Duty Industrial ? What is the model and serial number of the LOADER on your tractor now ? Is it an Industrial Loader or and AG loader ? Backhoes pumps are bigger and Industrial loaders usually have backhoe pumps on them for that reason . Get more information and pictures especially if the tags are missing so we know what you have instead of just guessing what you think you have . Thanks Tony

The backhoe attachment is off a 64 4000 industrial. I put 74 by mistake. It is listed on the Worcester Craigs List for 900.00$ with photos. The attachment is couple hours from me. I was trying to decide if it is worth driving up to look at. My tractor is just a 1963 4000 with the 4 cylinder gas engine it does say heavy duty front end on it and there is no info on the loader. The pipe framing of the loader is the hydraulic tank.

Hello Douglas , The pictures on CL suck and do not show the Frame and you have no more info than before so that is no help so unless you post pictures I can't help you . You need a FORD LOADER with a FORD BACKHOE FRAME KIT to mount a FORD BACKHOE on a Ford AG Tractor . Anything can be made to fit anything if you have endless TIME , MONEY and MATERIALS .
