Ford 7710 pto

I took apart the pto in my ford 7710 to replace the seal and it appears to be a 7700 pto is that something ford did from factory

The the part of the pto that goes into the tractor is different so are the gears and the washer setup is different

You're still not being specific enough. Pictures would be handy about right now.

The PTO clutch pack is pretty much the same between the 7700 and 7710, the control valves however are noticeably different. The rear gears are different, the 7700 uses spur gears and the 7710 should be helical. There should be no physical way to interchange them. If you have spur gears, possibly someone swapped the entire rear axle at some point in the past? Or put 7710 sheet metal on a 7700? Get some casting numbers off of the rear axle and report back. Look for something like (I'm going off memory here) E0NN-4015-xx or something similar. The casting number should be in the neighborhood of the PTO valve.

No such thing as a 7700/7710 with single-speed PTO, at least not from factory.
