Ford 8?n turbocharged?

So me and a buddy were debating on weather a ford 8?n could produce more hp with a turbo without throwing a few rods or anything like that. If an 8?n could make enough pressure to run a turbo how much more Hp would it be making. Just curious about this you know what I mean.

"N" GURU "Dell" (now deceased) loved to post ideas and stories about using an automotive "smog pump" as a belt-driven "blower" on an "N".

Likely, an archive search would still turn up some of that stuff.

Those engines had about 6:1 compression and worked from 1500 rpm -2000 rpm. That's a prime candidate for turbocharging. My best wild guess would be that you could jump them up 50% without damage.

On a flat head?

(quoted from post at 16:32:07 02/09/20) Chances are, the head gasket would fail before you made enough boost to be a danger to the rofs or crank.

SURE would be interesting to know as to where the oft-mentioned "N" "head gasket" problem comes from.

Those engines have LOTS of head bolts or studs, more than a lot of other 4-cylinder engines, and problems are RARE if procedures are followed and a quality job is done.

Off course, overheating and other operator error can wreck ANYTHING.
