Ford 8000

I have a ford 8000 and I noticed today oil leaking out of a little hole on the very bottom of the transmission. Looks like it's a tattle tale/weep hole. Smells like hydraulic oil. Thank you

That hole is in the bottom of the bell housing, which is where the clutch lives, and that area is supposed to be dry. The hole is there to allow any fluids that leak out of the rear of the engine or the front of the transmission into the bell housing to be able to exit the bell housing to avoid contaminating the clutch with oil. There is supposed to be a large cotter pin in the hole that is installed loosely so that it rattles around from the vibrations of the tractor running and is supposed to keep the hole clear of dirt and mud.

Since the fluid dripping out of yours smells like hydraulic fluid I would bet it is the front seal of the transmission that is leaking. It will require a split of the tractor between the engine and transmission to replace the seal.

2X what Sean said. In addition, it could go for years without causing you a problem. However, the hydraulic oil could be coming from the transmission input shaft seal, or it could be coming from the PTO shaft seal which is inside of the drive shaft. If it is the latter it is dripping onto your clutch which will cause it to start slipping before long. You can't tell until you get in there.

If your 8000 has Dual Power, it could also be from loose fittings coming into the side of the case. That
would be an easy fix from the outside.
