I grew up farming with a 8000 (and others). You really have to keep a clean filter on the PTO. Also, the 1970 models had the "Whale Oil" PTO problem. Basically the inside paint lining of the transmission area pealed off and plugged the hydro system including the PTO.

If you split the tractor, it is not too hard to replace clutch. But getting it back together is tricky. As a last note, the 401 engine is a hell of a puller (for its generation, as a diesel it has unusual CUI displacment for HP). If you have a thought about adding a turbo you should consider replacing the main jack shaft while apart. It's a little bigger and simply replaces the non-turbo shaft (the 9000 had a slightly bigger shaft).

Other wise good tractor. My dad still runs the thing today.
