Ford 801 Powermaster

Hello all,
I just purchased an 801 powermaster and after using a Ferguson to020 I have a new toy to learn and get used to. Although Iwant to learn everything possible about this tractor there is a small lever to the right of the seat that i have no idea what it does. Any and all help would be appreciated.

It sounds like you are speaking of the drafr/position control lever.

Unlike your TO-20, the Ford has both draft and position control modes.

Use the draft setting for plowing and little else.

position control lever. your fergy was draft only.

this ford can be draft or position. up for position ( mowing, etc.. ) down for plowing.. etc..

now that you've got that nice beefy machine.. you need to invest in a owners manual.. or download one.. and then buy parts catalog and service manual.

and ask away.. the answers are all right here.. :)

Great, thanks for the quick replies, I am wanting to change the engine oil tomorrow and I probably wont have the manual that fast. so what type is recommended and how much does it take?

gas or diesel I like 15w40 C(s) rated oil.. gasser.. buy 6qts.. 1/2 qt goes in oil bath air filter after you clean it.

diesel? not sure if it has different sump requirements.. but dipstick will tell you.

oil filter:

is spin on.. motorcraft fl1a, supertech st8a, fram ph8a, napa 1452 or 1515.. 1452 is more appropriate.. tons of others.

if a internal element.. napa 1004 or fram ch6pl or crosses..

I was told a long time ago...(from the dealer I bought the tractor)..........

How to use draft control. Up, for above ground work. Like mowing, discing, etc. Down, for plowing or below ground work.

Is this correct????

Soundguy,
15w40 will be fine for Dave now.but wouldn't that be a little too "Heavy" of an oil for someone livng in Ohio during the cold months?

Respectfully, GT65

GT65,
15W40 is great all year long in the Buckeye state!
It is 15 weight at cold temps! At worst you can put a block heater on it if ya want. My gas 1964 Ford 4000 does fine with it all year long. I am south of Youngstown. West of Pittsburgh. East of Canton.

In the Cincinnati, OH latitude, I use 15W40 diesel spec oil year around in all of my tractors, vintage or otherwise, with acceptable results.

yes, mostly. ground engaging work is draft. I'd likely put discing in with that as well as harrowing in general, if using 3pt equipment. plowing and middle busting for sure. and 'if' ont he box blade. you could use either depending on what you are doing. same with raking.

mowing.. and boom pole.. position for sure..

i wouldn't drop to 10w30 untill I hit moichigan or alaska or an extended ice sorm. 15w40 has a good temperature range.. check the jug if unsure.

the bulk of my machines digest 15w40 though some ( road diesels )are on a syn 5w40
