Ford 861 Distributor Question

• I bought a new distributor for my Ford 861.
  • It came with an O-Ring installed (See Photo) but isn't it supposed to have an "Oil Seal" too?
    • Is that what the groove is for under the O-Ring?
  • Do I have to remove the Gear to get the Oil Seal on - (assuming it requires one?)

Install it, that is all there is.

I've tried to install the new distributor but it won't drop in the last 1/2". I've been able to get the old one to drop in - it seems these distributors have a HEX pattern on the bottom of the shaft - is it possible that the new shaft Hex fitting is too tight to fit down all the way? I can feel the gears engage as I drop it down and have tried moving the position of the shaft in both directions but I'm not getting anywhere. Disappointing to say the least...
