Ford 8N 1952

Just got a 8N from a friend and it runs great. The first day I had it the hydraulics worked great raising a woods mower. Now for some reason they will not work! Any ideas on what to ck for.

I've never dealt with this on an 8N but I have on my 841, so specifics may differ.

You will need to get a hold of a preassure gauge that will read 2500 psi or more, put it on the hydaulic pump (mine is near the clutch bell housing of the right side - should have a plug that you can remove to mount the gauge, it should read in the 2K psi range. If not, then you will need to rebuild the pump (If is the old square, vane type, that may be a problem).

If the pump psi checks out, you probably need to replace the O-rings in the 3-pt hydaulic system. That is mounted under a cover above the rear axle, under the seat.

You should invest in a shop manual for that machine.

When you say you "go if from a friend" did he give it to you? If so, you be lucky!

Do you have the PTO set so it runs and also have the clutch pedel up?? On the 8Ns you have to have the PTO spinning for the 3 point to work so if you push the clutch in you will not have a working 3 point. Or it could be low on fluid.

Where do I put in the Hydrualic fluid in at. Is it located right behind the gear shifter?

Yep only one place to fill on an 8N and that fills the tranny, hyds and rear end. And yes its by the shifter

Old's right,but Dads sat a while when he was sick and after he passed away. My brother wanted to use it this summer and had about the same problem. I put a smaller implement on it and just kept letting it raise and lower over and over again until it finally seemed to break loose and get lubed so to speak. Something was just sticky from sitting.
