Ford 8N Gas line

I recently bought this Ford 8N and it runs good but while running it sometimes stalls. I check everything out wiring, etc.. I rode it yesterday and notice the reason it stalls. I can see where the gas to the clearview filter gets empty. I undid the clamp a little for the line coming from the tank and it filled up. Then, it starts up. What could be causing the restriction of gas to the filter once in a while? I notice that the line from the tank which goes into a clear repository and then over the eninge to the filter right before the carb is angle upwards. Maybe I need to give a little slent down so gas can continue to run to the filter? Any suggestions.

You need to remove that inline filter and throw it away, and it sounds like you have a flexible rubber fuel line. If so you should remove it also and get a steel replacement line for about $20.00 at most places. The only filters needed on the N tractors were installed at the factory. They are one in the fuel tank attached to the glass bowwl with the fuel cutoff, one in the glass bowl , and one in the carburetor at the end of the fuel line where it goes into the carburetor. A rubber fuel line is unsafe because if it ruptures or leaks onto your exhaust manifold you will most likely be looking for a new tractor very soon, if you survive the fire.

If there are any filters in line from the sediment bowl at the tank, get rid of them. Your "N" should have No extra filters from the sed. bowl all the way to your carb. What I think is happening is, the line with extra filters is causing an air lock on the fuel line.
Check your FO4 maual for proper fuel line set up. The fuel is a gravity feed system, to the carb.

I second that! No rubber gas lines! When I was a youngster (back when the earth was still hot), our neighbors 8N fuel line ruptured and he was in the hospital burn unit for weeks, and was never the same again.
Shouldn't need an in-line filter either.

Your problem most like is the in-line fuel filter. Most are made to be run with a fuel pump and need 5-15 PSI to let fuel pass through them like it should and an N series tractor will not have that type of fuel pressure. Also sounds like you have a rubber hose for fuel line throw that away also and buy a piece of brake line at the auto parts store its cheap as in less then $10 for a piece long enough to do the job and it will not melt and cause a fire line the rubber stuff does

Armondo,just went through the same thing with 2 8ns. The line you need is 1/4 inch brake line.The bad part is the parts stores sell pre made & flared ones in 10-20-30-40 inch lengths. the length you need is 24-26 inches. If you don"t have a good bender & double flare kit you are better off to just buy one from the YT store or your favorite 8n vendor. Please get rid of the rubber hose & inline filter. Well... I don't have the stock shut off, & threw away the filter that was in my sediment bowl. I cut my copper fuel line & put in an in-line filter from a lawn tractor and it seems to be working fine.
Been running a copper fuel line for several years now with no problems. Cheaper then steel & MUCH easier to bend

I see on the glass repository under the gas tank that it has some sediment. So, I remove the filter will it effect the carb? I appreciate your feedback. Let me know.

The answer to your problem "look" what does the inside of the tank look like????????? Why does it have the in line filter
If clean then make sure you have all the stock filters in place then you can ditch the in line, if dirty you need to fix or replace the tank or install a new in line and see how it goes. I highly recommend a steel line, as posted below it can turn into a blow torch.

Use a 1/4" steel brake line cut to 26 3/4", have it double flaring on the cut end and make you own replacement. Or buy a double flare tool and do it your self.

"bout the only time I have ever seen a clean add on in line filter not flow fuel was if it had water in it, it will not flow water less it has some help and then may not.

Here"s a pix of my Ho-made fuel line, its EZ to make and bend, copper is not a good choice at all so don"t go their.

Armando, I went through this process several months ago. There are three filters in the fuel system. One, cylinder shaped, fits up inside the gas tank and sits on top of the fuel shut off assembly. One is round and flat, like a silver dollar and sits right on top of the sediment bowl, what you call the "repository."
The other filter fits inside the brass elbow that connects the fuel line to the carb. You should check all of these and clean them. If you are getting rust and dirt in the sediment bowl, chances are great that you have rust and dirt in your gas tank.
You need to drain the tank completely. .. Disconnect the fuel line.
Remove the fuel shut off valve assembly. This will let you inspect, clean, and/or replace two filters. You have to remove the hood to detach the gas tank. I would take the gas tank to a radiator shop and have them boil it out and/or steam clean it.
Before you reassemble all of this, you should probably go ahead and give your carb a good cleaning or overhaul.
I'd go ahead and install three new filters and the fuel line. Reattach the fuel tank to the hood. Get everything back together then fire it up.
Betcha she runs nice and smooth now.
Keep the gas tank full to avoid condensation which causes rust on the inside of the tank.
