Ford 8N loader

Loader on 8N with Vickers front pump - won't lift. Getting oil to both cylinders. Acts like it wants to lift but just can't get going. Replaced seal and bearing in pump. Loader worked a few years ago before I removed it to paint the tractor. Any ideas? Thanks! Todd

first thing I'd do is confirm pump is turning under power and that the pump drive isn't sheared and freewheeling a little.. then check oil flow to the pump inlet.. might have a froze chunk of water starving the pump.. BTDT... next thing I'd do is check pressure... might have a relief in the loader valve stuck open.. etc.

post back.

As sound says. Also if you plumb in a pressure gauge it helps you figure out what is wrong. I have also found that trying to rebuild a vane pump most of the time is a waste of $$ Yep BTDT and have 3 or 4 old ones laying around to prove that rebuilds do no work well if at all. You also may have a relief valve that is sticking

if they are double acting cylinders, and the seals are completely blown, they will bypass.

an easy way to check is to take the 'drop' hose off one side of each DA cyl, then pressurize the 'lift' hose... if oil shoots out the drop port on the cyl, then the seals are blown. On a SA cyl, you'd seal oil shooting out the end of the cyl if it was a packing issue.

I remove the bypass valve and the spring and plunger was broken into pieces. Replaced the plunger and added a few washers and the remaining part of the spring and it works fine now!
