Hello all I don't know much about ford tractors so im wondering what the difference was between the side distributer and front distributer is one newer than the other and or better or more vauleable? Thanks

Front mount was the older style, made until early 1950.
Some (most?) people think the side mount is easier to work on.
I'm not sure it makes much difference in value, depends on the buyer.
The "better" part of the side mount is the round can coil.
The old front mounts used a square coil on top of the distributor
that was prone to failure.
Especially if the key was left on when not running.
Lots of great info on John Smith's site here: Old Ford Tractors

as royse stated.

front / older.

that said. I don't find any issues working on a front.

I kinda LIKE being able to pull a distribuitor without retiming it to the engine.

on the other hand.. there are some things on the older N that are not as desireable... for instance.. I'd get a side distribuitor N JUST to get the newer style steering box.. oval covers.. not round.

more adjustment..

You don't have to get a side mount distributor model to get the newer style steering box.
