ford 8n starter switch

I have been working on a ford 8n sometimes when I turn the switch off and the tractor stops running the amp meter will stay discharges 20 amps. It will stay that way and then the starter switch will not engage the starter. Until I either move the shifter or press on the switch or a combination of both then when I get the amp meter to read normal the starter works fine and the tractor will start and run normal.. Some times the starter will engage for a second and stop the amp meter will go back to normal and then it will start fine.

Alternator or generator?

Two position OEM ignition switch or a replacement auto switch?
