Ford 8N

I have a 1950 -1952 ford 8n. when I crank it up and let it idle for about 5 minutes. I can see smoke coming out of the oil fill cap. I changed the oil today and i ran it for about 15 minutes and cut it off and drained the oil and smoke was coming out of the oil fill tube for about 15 minutes. Can anyone tell me what this means. Thank you Chris

crisco.......it means yer oil is gittin' HOT and evaporating the NATURAL water by-products of combustion. It also means the outside air is cool enuff for you to see it. It takes about 1-hr of running to fully heat and evaporate yer 6-qts of engine oil, not 15-mins. NOT to worry ......Dell

As Dell sez, it's water vapor. And, unless you have a t-stat in the upper hose, it will probably never get to operating temp & boil the water out. Check out tip # 25 at the link below.

When i crank it up the smoke comes out until i turn it off. where is the thermostat located at on my ford.I looked in my manual but did not see anaything. thanks

As I said in my post above, it's supposed to be in the upper radiator hose. Squeeze the hose.
