Ford 9000 steering shaft

I am trying to locate a steering shaft for my 9000 ford. It broke where it slides down over the splined shaft of the steering motor in the dash. On the end of the shaft it is split and tapered, a nut pushes a tapered ring onto the shaft and it tightens around the splined shaft, holding it all together. Well, one half of the end where it is split broke off and it is difficult to move the tractor around this way, let alone, use it for anything. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it, or maybe is there a salvage yard nearby that has the shaft? Any help is appreciated, not sure if this is a common problem or not, but I haven't read much about it. I would try to weld the broken piece back on, but then the threads would be gone and the splines are pretty worn anyway, and will probably even require a new steering motor.

Thanks, I will give them a call tomorrow, hope they have one, I want to get back to using the tractor. This will probably be it's last year as a "chore tractor" as I have plans to build it into a puller over the winter .

Worthington Ag parts would have one also. They have a number of salvage yards around the country.

Neither worthington or mcfaddens has one. I found one, at another location but the price was not to my liking (You could almost buy another 9000 ford for what 2 of them would cost). I ended up just making the old one work.

its almost always the lower shaft that goes bad and its usually not availible. the early ford steering motor was later replace with a modern motor from Eaton, Char-lynn, or one of the other manufactors. The Original ford lower shaft and parts are difficult(impossible) to find, the upper can still be found. the lower shaft and steering unit were married or matched at the factory to the housing. the torque sensor was usually bent to the right meaning that it turned easier one direction than the other due to the bent sensor.

I"ve seen them drilled and a bolt through both shafts, not good in your case. Ive seen them welded.

If the tractor is a keeper, get a whole assembly off a new model and retro fit it and make new mounts.Lots of 9000s got retired early due to tranny problems.
