has anyone bought or sold one? what are they worth? 1957 restored. are they any good? thanks for any info.

would be a 971 or 981 depending on if it has a single speed pto or dual.

generally the SOS trannied machines are worth a bit less than the standard trans machines. IE.. you'd likely get more out of a 961 dual stage clutch model than the 971/981 for a person wanting to work it.

what will also make some difference is the front configuration.. could be narrow front single or dual wheel.. or a wide front.

there are things that you could use the sos trans for that yuo wouldn't do as easilly with a manual.. like roto-tilling.. etc.

the sos has picked up a bad name for problems early in life.. there were many change outs as well.

if the sos runs good, has all gears and reverse's and shifts fine hot or cold.. and you maintain it well.. it will likely give you some good service. if it already has problems.. it's a dice roll.. might be a 25 cent part.. or a 2500$ trans swap. there are a select group here that like the sos trans.. use them, and know how to maintain them.. then then there ar ehte rest of us manual-gear heads

actual price will depend on condition of the machine and trans.. and location.

many times the rowcrops go for less than the ag chassies.. with a sos in it too boot.. I can see a range of $1500$ max for a good runner with decent looks... to perhaps a max of 2500$ for a piece that's had plenty of refurbishment and good paint.

Couldn't be 1957 as the Select-A-Magic didn't come out till 1959. If it restored, did that include a rebuild of the selected automadic or just a repaint? If it is a '59 , might there be gold paint on parts of it yet, and are there stamped numbers on both sides of the Speed-o-select? They are the best, till sompthing goes wrong--then not so good.

it is painted red and grey adjustable wide front,seems to be a high crop, hood says 901 selecto, diesel, farmer says 1957?

The diesel engine was introduced in 1958,the Select-O-Speed transmission was introduced in 1959 and the generic 901 decals (instead of the specific 971 or 981 decal) were introduced in 1960 so it appears the farmer doesn't know what he has. The serial number will tell you when it was made but the diesels are famous for dripping battery acid on the serial number and obliterating it.

ditto what the others said.. the more you tell us.. the more it don't add up with what you've bene told.

check the bellhousing aft of the starter and post the numbers you find.. will be amodel id number and serial number.
