I see more of those in the light classes all the time. My friend that builds engines tells me they are relatively easy and not terribly expensive to get fairly strong. Have seen the Ford's in 5000lb several times. Depends on your track and sled. Seems that they are in mid 40s horsepower stock. A few more rpm will improve on that

I used to pull with one until I got my 960. Stock, they are about the highest power to weight ratio going, but engine HP is around 53. That 62 is gross which nobody goes by because it doesn't even include a water pump. They are designed to make their power at higher RPMs than most other tractor engines. There are some 960s or 901s like Jay Scasso's and Vonnel Krom's and Gary Bill's that just seem to clean house wherever they go.

(quoted from post at 06:55:29 08/26/18) Why did you switch from the 961 to the 960

There was no really significant reason. I got both of them before internet, and I was really looking for a 960 because that was THE tractor of my youth. I getting it light for my lightest class the front end of the 901 is heavier than the 960.
