ford 9700 capabilities

Just curious as to what can you do with a 135 hp tractor such as how big of a chisel, disk, cultivator could a tractor like the 9700/9600/9000
handle. No paticualr reason other than i was visiting with a friend and he was showing me some pictures of one that had been completely rebiult and new coat of paint and tires and new every thing it was a beautifull tractor. just made me wonder about it

I have a TW-20, think the same hp. 12 foot chisel, plays with the 20 foot finishing disk (not a heavy offset disk!), had a 22 foot field cultivator, got a 24 foot, that's about max.

I run a 4-20 plow on it, I'm told it should pull a 5-bottom easy, but I have very tough soils, there are times the 4 is enough.

It will depend on soil type and how it's ballasted... but when I had a 9600, I pulled a 5x16 plow at 9-10" deep(could have pulled 6 bottoms, I'm sure), 20' field cultivator w/ 5" sweeps and a 3-bar coil-tine harrow, and a 2-row chopper. Used the 5x16 because that's what I had. Bought the chopper the same year, but 3-row heads are hard to find unless you want to spend $$$ on pretty new stuff. I could pull the chopper as fast as the gathering chains allowed. Fill a wagon in under 10 minutes in good corn. I usually plowed in 5th, dropping to 5th dual power to turn. I tired it in 6th once, just for grins, and it pulled it... smoked a lot, but it went... and threw the dirt. Just too fast for plowing. That old beast turned 140 on the dyno when I traded it, at 98xx hours.

Fordfarmer, If you give me your email I'll send you a link to a video of my 9000 puttin' up smoke. Not as much though as the little Allis that beat me.

We pull a 23" JD 235 disk with our 9000. It has it's pants full when the soil is wet. We had a Gehl 1060 chopper and the chopper could easily snuff the tractor out if not careful. We also used a Houle 4300 gallon tanker on the 9000 to haul out our slurry tank. Broke the draw bar with the Houle but the old draw bar had a hole drilled in where is rested on the support and it broke there. The new draw bar doesn't have that hole.

J. was that tanker making your 9000 "gallop"? I've seen that, and had it happen with implements like tankers.

The front would bounce until we added the front suitcase weights to it. After that it was good. The draw bar broke in the field spreading in 4th high. I believe it was because of the added hole in the drawbar that weakened it. We have spread hundreds of loads with the new drawbar.
