Hello all I am new to ford and bought my first Ford tractor yesterday a Ford 9700 tractor with a cab on it has 4025 hrs on tack just wondering if there are any certain ups and downs about this tractor any help is apprecated thanks.

Good tractor. Those 401's are efficient and tough. Biggest thing is to keep the coolant up to snuff, so you don't end up with cavitation holes in the cylinder walls. New Holland's version is FW15 coolant conditioner, although I'm sure there are other brands available.

great tractor. will last about anther 2000 hrs. probably should have got 1 without a cab. i have to put a new hyd pump, steering pump, and turbo seal in mine. it runs good with about 7500hrs.

If you have never used a dual power transmission before here are a few tips.

Never shift down while in 7th or 8th gear on pavement.

Use the clutch then shift down if in 6th, 7th or 8th. I do this while cutting hay with a discbine in 6th high to 6th low at the head lands. Saves wear and tear.

The Ford dual power is by far way better than the IH TA.

We have a Ford 8700 with 11000 hours on it and never touched the dual power.

The PTO break is a thin metal band and requires a split to fix if broken. Slow the PTO to idle before turning the PTO off.

The 401 engine is bullet proof and easy on fuel. Adjust the tappets on the intake and exhaust valves if they have never been looked at. We neglected this on our 8700 and at 6200 hours a valve broke just below the keeper but it had a burr on it preventing it from dropping into the engine. Got lucky on that one.

Remember to change the injector pump oil at every oil change. Do not over tighten the drain plugs in the pump or you will be fixing it with a helicoil.

We have a 9000, 8700 and a TW30 that we use on our farm of 400 acres.
