Can anyone help me identify this old backhoe, or tell me how. Serial under hood is C380794. Numbers on left side of flywheel housing are 3D20C and AD70B03

3D20C is a date code for April 20, 1973 afternoon shift. C380794 is a 1st half 1973 serial number, made in USA. AD70B03 doesn't compute as a model number, model number should be 6 characters. Maybe post some pictures of the tractor, numbers, look closer at codes etc. I think the model number should also be shown under the hood.

Model number is under hood but I cannot read it. It is a 3 speed with high/low and no shuttle. Looks like a 3400, but I dont know. Diesel engine is stuck, man wants $2000. Doubt I could give that much.

3400 is a pretty good guess, matches other info O.K., I would go with that.

Stuck diesel engines are neither easy nor cheap to fix. Even if you can find a donor engine you'd have tons and tons of dead weight to pull off the tractor to get down to the engine to replace it. I recommend a hard pass on this one unless you've got the facilities.

I can do it. Just cannot see why I would work hard to lose money. Although it does seem to happen pretty often.
