Ford Blue Paint

Looking for the correct/best paint for my 1967 Ford 5000.

I used New Holland's blue on my Wards garden tractor. It was acrylic enamel and covered well. I didn't use any hardener as you need a supplied air system. Hal
PS: The light color is Duponts acrylic enamel.

I've been collecting paint codes and this is what I have for your model - I cannot vouch for any of these as I have no first hand experience with the newer tractors.

Thanks for the info. I had searched previous posts and had looked on the parts site with no luck. I completely overlooked the paint codes on the left....feel dumb right now. I saw the Tisco paint on TSC's website, but wondered if anyone had used it. Thanks again!

Depends on what you are trying to achieve. My basic rule is: Don't put expensive paint over a five hour prep job and don't put cheap paint over a fifty hour prep job.

Took about 3 Qt on mine--- over old paint-- are you gonna prime? --sand blast ?It will take more over primer

Here are two of mine. The 901 is the most recent and I did it all myself. To the best of my knowledge tractor dealers don't sell automotive paint, which is what you need if you are going to do a top notch job. I used urethane on the 901. I prefer not to go by paint codes because they are accurate only if you have the right one for the year, and Ford changed the colors a lot through the "red belly" years. Blue is a lot easier, the only change that I know of occurred post Fiat. Any place that you go to buy good paint now will have a digital analyzer so it is pretty much fool proof to take an unmolested panel and clean it and take it for matching. good luck.

The 901 didn't make it first try.

It will be primed. The sheet metal will be completely stripped.

if you want factory color your best bet is to go to the dealer and get it from there any other place is going to be a little off or like tsc paint quite a bit off.

Unfortunately the Ford blue has changed some over the years. Reason being is the different formulations due to EPA etc plus different suppliers and the fact that some tractors came from England and some from USA etc. I have a near new 2810 that has seen VERY little sun and thus the paint is in awesome shape. It is no where near the factory paint you buy today but then again maybe England used a slightly different blue. The factory blue has a darker blue look and slight green/blue hue to it as compare the England version. I just painted my 3910 tractor with PPG Delfleet essentials Ford Blue color and its very close to as new 2810.

Be sure to use negative ground paint on that model. It will adhere much better.

And then there is the synthetic paint you can use as well.

Negative ground paint? This is expoxy and it sticks like glue. Better not get it where you dont wont it.
