Does anybody know if the Ford 3 cyl diesel engines B, C, & D made in the mid 60's are interchangeable

As far as bolting them in place... yes, they will fit. I think what you're refering to is the 2000 (B), 3000 (C) and 4000 (D) engines. Those were three different displacement engines with three different power ratings.... but all have the same physical size.

I had a 2000, have a 3000 and have a newer 4000 (4600). All seem to have the same block and the difference is in the bore and stroke and it isn't much. Like the 2000 as I recall is 4.2 dia with a shorter stroke (I forgot maybe 4.2), while the 3000 is 4.2x4.2 (or 4.4 x 4.2)and the 4000 is 4.4 x 4.4 type thing. This moves the displacement from (again as I recall) from 150 to 175 to 201 cu in roughly.

Other difference is that the 2000 and 4000 use a CAV distributor type pump while the 3000 is said to use the inline Simms pump, and I had one with a Simms pump, but the one I currently have also has the CAV pump. Personally, I like it better for cold weather starting as it comes with a fuel enrichment valve rather than just increasing fuel flow to the pump for a given rpm.

Be careful if you are putting the bigger engine in a 2000 / 3000, they used a lighter rear end that doesn't like the extra power of the big engine.

10-4 on the rear end. The arse of my 4600 is much more stout than the others.

I don't know if it was offered in the U.S. but there was a Ford 4100 in the U.K. range that slotted in between the 3600 and 4600, that had the 4600 motor with the drum braked rear axle of the 3600, it was just an economy version of the 4600, bl**dy awfull thing it was too!

The old 4 cyl 4000 built in the mid '60's was like that (dry drum brakes). I don't know what transpired between that and my 4600 (which has the wet discs)here. I never saw a 4100 however. My 4600 came from Holland and is setup on the European standard so I get the foot throttle and hand brake which I really like.
