Ford Fork Lift

I recently bought a Ford rough terrain forklift, and need some help identifying the model, engine make, and such. I think it"s a late 60"s or early 70"s vintage. The drive axles have drum brakes, there is a casting number on the axle- "CONN" and under that, "4013E". The engine is a 4 cylinder gas, with generator charging. The engine has a casting number "CONN6015J".I would like to find any shop manuals and engine information I can.
The fenders have "Ford" in script lettering, the counterweight has "Ford" in block letters.

Look on the flat spot on the tranny - just above and behind the starter. Should be three rows of numbers there. You might have to scrape through some grime or paint to read them. Post those numbers/letters here and folks will help you decipher exactly what you have.

I stripped the top layer of industrial yellow paint off the flat spot on the transmission. Nice layer of red underneath. There are just two rows of numbers. "40601S" and underneath that, "164142" The numbers appear to be hand stamped. The transmission is a four speed with shuttle. I misspoke before, I think it is a late 50's, early 60's vintage, but not sure.

I snatched this from Larry Loy's photobucket page.

Is your fork lift like this one? It's based on the 1801 / 4140 HD Industrial tractor loader hoe. Very nice machines (I'm told - don't have one of them...:().

So, do I have a Ford 4000 Forklift, and 1801, or a 4140? When I look for tune up parts, oil filters, etc., what do I say? Where can I find Larry Loy's photobucket page. Thanks

40601s, that would be a 4000 model forklift. basically the same between the two. The engine in your's should be a paerent block vs. the older sleeved engine. Tune up stuff I would order for an 800, this will cause you less headaches. There were two different series of 4000's, prior to 65 and 65 and newer. Most would look at you funny if you said 1801 as well.

The machine of Larry's is a 4000 series industrial forklift. As others have said, it will be the same mechanical guts in the engine and transmission as the 801 series. The rear end will probably be the same as the 4140. But it's real hard to say for sure as ford used what what close to hand at times...

Just right mouse click the pic and get the properties. That's how I ferret out the home location of pictures. Often other pictures of interest in the same folder, etc. Larry has some excellent equipment and he knows (KNOWS!) a ton about them. I always pay attention when he writes stuff.

John you have a 4000 HD Industrial Forklift made April '62----the 4050--1S--the 1S stands for sherman forward and reversing tran.---most of the running gear is the same as any of the HD industrial made from '58 to early '65

I have a fork lift that I am bartering for that looks just like this one. The numbers by the starter is 41500S and below it is a diamond followed by 2483 and another diamond. On other side of the engine is cast CONN6015J. If you can tell me anything about this that would be great or recommend a service manual. I am currently haveing trouble getting it to start. I tried removing the starter but there is something attached to it on the end past the gear. Any assistince would be greatly appreciated.
It has a four speed trans with what I believe is shuttle shift on the right side of the seat to change forward and reverse. It has three stage hydrolic with side shift as well.
