Ford Funk Starter

I have a Ford Funk with a 6 cylinder "Industrial" flathead. When I tried to start it the starter ran but did not turn the motor. It had a funny grinding sound. No previous starter problems. Video attached with sound. Is this characteristic of anything?

Could be different things. Could be worn teeth on the flywheel ring gear, could be bad or broken teeth on the starter drive, could be a broken washer on one end of the starter drive spring (which is not uncommon), or could even be a broken nose piece which hold the end of the armature (which is not uncommon to happen on a Funk starter). I'm afraid you will just have to take the starter off and take a look.

Sounds like either a broken ring gear tooth or ring gear came off the flywheel. Grab the top side of the generator pulley and pull toward you to spin the engine forward. Move the engine at least an inch the get that group of teeth out of the way. If results are the same you might have a ring gear popped off the flywheel.

If you have it rebuilt will you post what the starter drive is off of? It has been passed to me second hand from a man who met a Funk brother in the 1990's that they used a Miniapolis Moline starter drive. The nose cone was custom piece and the starter was a regular tractor.

EDIT: It is very important that the nose cone bushing is replaced or at least measured. It is possible to bust the nose cone. There was a machine shop advertising a few years ago they made Funk starters. It is a hear reduction type with machined nose piece to match the adapter plate.

Well sure enough the nose cone is broken. Unsure if that can be welded. Trying to figure out about buying a new/used starter. Any suggestions?
THANKS to everyone for their help!!
