Ford Funk Starter

I have a Ford Funk with a 6 cylinder "Industrial" flathead. When I tried to start it the starter ran but did not turn the motor. It had a funny grinding sound. No previous starter problems. Video attached with sound. Is this characteristic of anything?

Could be different things. Could be worn teeth on the flywheel ring gear, could be bad or broken teeth on the starter drive, could be a broken washer on one end of the starter drive spring (which is not uncommon), or could even be a broken nose piece which hold the end of the armature (which is not uncommon to happen on a Funk starter). I'm afraid you will just have to take the starter off and take a look.

Hope the grinding sounds aren't the ring gear spinning on a stationary flywheel.

After turning the ignition switch off and removing the key, rotate the engine just slightly and try again.
