I LOOKING FOR ADVISE ON BUYING A Ford Funk with 6 cyclinder motor. Engine has not been run in 10 years. Its been stored inside. THE MOTOR TURNS FREELY WITH NO CRACKS OR WELDS. TIN AND TIRES ARE IN REALLY GOOD SHAPE. I WOULD REBUILD ENGINE MYSELF. IT HAS A COMBO SHERMAN STEP /DN TRANNY. Any ideas what this tractor is worth. approx????

Paul.......value is what you think it is worth and selling price is what you negotiate. Records are unclear but it is estimated of 1,000,000 N-Tractors, about 8,000 were converted to 6-cyl "Funks". I would NOT pay more than $4000 for Funk in EXCELLENT condition, and just for the "braggin' rights" only. Iff'n I needed more horsepower, there are better $4000 tractors out there.

Iff'n you think you haffta "rebuild" the 6-cyl engine, (ittza 1949 pickup engine) tractor ain't worth $4000. And you don't buy Funk engine parts at yer local Ford/New Holland tractor dealer. You go to yer local NAPA store.

tip: do the dreaded compression test, 100psi minimum. Use a 12v jumper battery onto starter studd underneath the exhaust manifold. Post the readings, dry and wet and we'll help you interpret them. ......Dell

Is it worth 2500? Or are these tractors not that valuable like a non running 8n? It has the step/dn and a 6 cyclinder engine?

If it is a complete unit $2500 is not a bad price but I would sure want it to move on its own power before I paid that much .

Does it have rails or the cast iron oil pan ? Governor ?

I would say it is worth the gamble for $2500 . Thats a combo step up/down lever poking out there .

My old funk has sheet metel for a hood extention and never had the aluminum extention . Years ago I saw one on ebay for $99 with no bids , I had forgot and let time run out .

Depends on why you are buying it.

If you're buying it as an investment - NO. By the time you restore it to original condition you could easily drop three times the selling price.

As Dell said, if you're looking for a stronger tractor, there are better options than the Funk with more readily available parts.

If you're buying it because it's something you've always wanted then to heck with what it costs if that's what you want.

IMHO the V-8's are more desirable because it's a V8.

Just another opinion--worth $2500 -- no not in my opinion..I wouldn"t pay that for it.

I would snap it up at that price. If engine turns , should be able to run with new gas and tune up to sparkies. If I was not on way to hook up trailor to bring home another Ford, I would ask where it is. Parts can be found to complete it. No worries mate!
