i have a 172ci engine in my ford tractor. sitting on the tractor on the left side of the cyclinder head next to the bottom of the head is a hole and i was wondering what is it for

Front or back or middle? Most likely it is where the temp sending unit goes. It could also be the remains of a temp sender bulb. Have you been running it with this hole? not much info to go on.

Left side would be carburetor side, right? Maybe it's the governor compensating rod stop assembly missing....

This hole? I think it's for the governor stop bracket but mine doesn't have one or is missing.
