Ford locking hubs question

2015 F-250 with vacuum-operated front hubs. How does the dial come out of the ring. The hubs were immoveable when I got it five years ago. They engage and disengage fine but I could not get the knobs to turn manually. Can somebody explain to me how to take them apart to lubricate. I got one loosened up but still needed pliers to turn the dial.

1. Remove the allen/torx screws that holds the cap on.

2. If no screws are used. Remove the brake rotors and then the snap ring.

Use caution when using pliers and such to turn the dial. They are made of plastic and have been known to snap off.

What I'm asking is how to get the dial out of the cap. No problem taking the cap off and separating it from the internals.

Don't bother trying. Clean in ultrasonic cleaner with something like Simple Green solution. If they do not loosen up after a few cycles of that just replace them, they are too far gone to waste your time trying to repair. By the time you get them turning freely they will be leaking vacuum and not working normally and also leaking in water further deteriorating things.

I will note that around here where they are exposed to a lot of fine sand/clay dust I make sure I pressure wash them and manually turn them a few times regularly to keep them from binding up. I'm rather surprised yours are working with vacuum, the flimsy and somewhat exposed vacuum lines are usually the first things to fail.

best thing to is cap or remove the vaccumm from the axle and put on warn or mile marker manual hubs we have had many customers have us do this just done 2001 ford as per customer request a month ago
