FORD PAINT CODE

I'm trying to find a close paint match for the original Ford Tractor M1J-1639-SE (BLUE) that was used on the early Thousand Series Models. I bought some TISCO Empire Blue, but see they make two shades, a TP360 and a TP365 and I don't remember which one I had and the can is long gone. Anyway, whatever, it was way too light -more like the later New Holland blue or the Detroit Lions Honolulu Blue. I think the original Ford paint code is M1J-1639-SE, Blue. I bought a can of the CNH/IRON GARD NEW HOLLAND BLUE and it the same shade as the TISCO stuff. I found a Dupli-Color shade, but the store I was at yesterday says that is an old defunct number. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a close match?

I know there are different opinions on this but I would lay pretty good odds that there was only ONE ☝Ford blue. Used from 62 till 99 or there abouts when New Holland bought out the brand.

Yeah, Jerry, Bern on the FORD forum said CNH has a '1963-1999' FORD BLUE p/n 9613386DS. I'm calling my CNH dealer now to see if they have some. Not driving 15 miles to get skunked. My 1969 ACCESSORIES & SPECIAL PARTS CATALOG SHOWS original paint code as "M1J-1639-SE" in case you want to save it. I agree only one shade til NH changed it. My data shows FORD purchased Sperry-New Holland around 1987.

Don't think so, UD.

The blue used on the prior 000 series tractors is unique to 63-64. It is darker than the two shades of Ford/CNH blue used subsequently.

Adding to the confusion, CNH does not supply the 64-64 blue paint but supplies a 63-9? paint which is not correct for the prior 000 series tractors.

If anyone definitively sorts this out, please post. My retirement project (if I decide to tackle it) is a 64, 4000 SOS.

Look for a local martin senour dealer near by the local one here was a napa parts store. He had a color chart with the ford codes if I can remember I will stop by tomorrow and see what he show's. I believe it was darker than the 65 up ford blue what number do you think it is...

Tim this is a PPG paint code list that I have.

Thanks Den. What about the off white? I have a M1J-1640-SE3 - Industrial Buff on my 1969 list but don't know what that is. I also show the M1J-1639-SE for the Ford Blue. Called my CNH dealer today to see if the 9613386DS Ford Bleu, 63-99 and they said yes, they have 12 quarts and 16 rattle cans so going to get a can tomorrow and will reply back with results.

Trust me, your CNH dealer does not know what was originally used on 63-64, 4000s. BTDT. Nor does anyone else at CNH.

The Buff color was used on the Utilities - 2110, 4110, 3400, and the 4410 Woods Tractor.
The chassis was Empire Blue and the tin, fenders and rims a very light yellow.
It was a aesthetically pleasing combo but not quite as pleasing as the red/buff combo used on the very early 2000 LCGs.
That same red/buff paint scheme is partly why I think the Cockshutts were the most handsome tractors ever.

If all else fails, you might want to try the Fordson collectors in the UK. I think the Super Dextas and Majors used the same paint.

The blue paint used on 62-64 ag tractors is the same color as automobile paint code (WT8002) used on the 1968 Mustang.

The grey is the same grey used on the 8N and the most correct shade that I've found is Tisco: TP240 as shown below.

mvphoto22568.jpg

Yeah I agree about the TISCO 249 MED Grey, but all the TISCO FORD labeled paints are too orangy. The closest match to original Ford Vermillion is the TISCO IH RED TP110. Your 'Stang looks great, but the blue too light for what I want.

I believe my early 1939 9N has the correct paint shades, both the blue and the white for the early 1960 Paint Codes used on the Thousand Series Models. My late uncles decided to paint their ?39 9N the new Ford shades in the early 60?s because, as my Uncle Bernie said, ??we were just bored of the plain dull 9N Grey??. I now own this tractor, got it in 1997 when my Uncle Pat died and am restoring it now as a tribute to both uncles and my grandfather who died the year before I was born so I never knew him. Yes, I will repaint it back to the original Ford M2888 Dark Grey. Yesterday I hit my local CNH dealer and bought a rattle can of the FORD early (63-00) Blue Paint, #961336DS. Here are the early and the later NH Blue Cans. Note cap shades. I have test parts in the paint booth now. I will post later. I think the shade I am after is the Equipment Blue that HOBO shows below.

(quoted from post at 17:30:04 09/02/18) It looks like I want the last one, Dark Blue for Equipment. I doubt if still available.

Tim

The store I went to use to be a NAPA store he is a tractor guy/collector. He use to sale NAPA/martin senour paint and still does but his inventory is low. He ask me if I wanted him to mix a sample he would if he had what he needed if not he would order it.

I googled martin senour paint code cross reference

Some were (you could play all day clicking on all the numbers that come up on there site) I read about the ford paint codes. They said they did not know the order ford used I think I read M1 came before M2 for what its worth.
