how does one tell a ford 505 mower from a ford 515 mower

They are both pitman-less (wobble box?) mowers. The 515 is the older, actual Ford design. Main frame is made of mostly round tube. The 505 is a rebranded IH 1300. Its main frame looks to be made mostly of flat stock steel. If you Google image the two, you’ll see the difference.

And confuse neither with the Ford 501. Likely most common. Pitman Arm mower. Main frame looks similar to the 515. Ok mower. Cheap.
