ford sputtering solution

I have a question for those more knowledgeable than I. Could a weak point somewhere in the primary/ secondary electrical system cause missing/sputtering under load. I have written extensively on this site about my 600 that runs on 6v but has to start on 12v. I have yet to diagnose the cause and I am frustrated to the point of converting to 12v neg.grd. amd EI to eliminate any weaknesses in ign. system. I do have some trouble with stumbling and missing under load, as does my neighbors 8n. Both have had several carb clean outs and a rebuild kit, could this be electrical? If so has anyone experienced 12v and EI "cleaning up" the performace of the tractor?
BTW I have done a lot of other testing and trouble shooting, but this hit and miss reliability makes me want to pull my hair out and give up on old gas tractors. thank you for any help.

Most likely either mixture or spark!

You know you can aand should adjust the power needle for high load conditions. Have you tried that?

What"s your spark look like? It should be FAT AND BLUISH-WHITE, the color of lightning. Blue, reddish, or yellowish won"t cut it.
Is your timing correct and is the advance working properly? Is the distributor bushing worn? Are you using solid copper spark plug wires and the correct plugs with proper gap? is the distributor cap in good condition? Do you have the correct coil for a 6V? Check the resiatance of the coil primary. It should be ~1.6 ohms.

If you cover all the ignition bases, and still have the problem are you sure you don"t have a air leak around the carb metering section causining some leaning of the mixture? the usual culprits are leaky carb to manifold gasket, leaking around the throttle shaft and crackeor rust hole in the inatke manifold or leaking manifold gasket. you say you cleaned the carb but did you soak it for at lest 24 hrs in real carb cleaner, blow out the passages and then check the passages for for cleanliness? Is you float valve correctly set? Do you have the correct jets in the correct places in the carb?

Hope this helps.

Is the switch wire to the coil connected to the negative side of the coil? And the lead wire from the distributor hooked to the positive of the coil?.(poor starting 6V) The mechanical advance system in the distributer will interchange with an 8N, but the shafts turn opposite directions, Thus retarding the spark.(misfiring at higher rpm) Just a couple of thoughts from personal experience.
