Hi...anyone know where i might be able to get a used steering gear sector part #251294? Looking for a used one before I bite the bullet and buy a new one.

Thanks Ed

Its the steering sector gear part #251294. If you are sitting on the tractor the steering gear lash adjuster faces toward the left. The pitman arm is on the right. Its for a 1963 4000 with power steering.

I didn't spend a lot of time searching but it looks like that sector was used on ALL the small Fords from the late 8Ns all the way through early 65. (cept row crops) So expand your search for used accordingly.

This site has the 251294, but count your teeth. This site is also one of the few that gives you a heads up on the tooth count. The 251294 sector was made for the '65 and newer tractors, but will fit the older models. If you have original gears in yours you need the 8N3527B or the C3NN3527A. Those are interchangeable. They are not available new, you have to find a good used one. If yours are original you will have to replace both sectors to use the 251294.

John,
This is info as only a few guys like yourself know. Marvelous that a a set of part numbers could fit from 1949 or so all the way to 1965.
I will add if they fit the steering box on a 65 they'll fit many of the small Fords till 1983 and maybe beyond.
Consider that the front end and steering on these things didn't change much from 39 to well in to the 80s.
I wonder, would you say the front end was Henry's idea or was it Harry's?
Thanks

I don't know a thing about the '65 and newer tractors and I'm too old to try to learn now. I just know he should count teeth before ordering one.

As for Harry or Henry, it depends who you ask, or who you believe. Ford guys from back then say Harry had a 3 point idea and Henry's people (like Harold Brock) did ALL the tractor designing. Ferguson people swear Harry designed EVERYTHING and Ford just built it. I'm sure the truth is somewhere in the middle.
