Ford tractor 741-5

Looking for information, just found a 741-5 which followed us home. However information seems to be scarce. Can anyone out there provide us with any?

Have heard of them from reading this board. Never seen one. Seems there was a municipaliy or municipalities, Detroit? that wanted some 5 speeds in a 701. So Ford built them and stamped them special. That's all I know.
7XXs are not real common. A 741-5 might be considered rare.
Nice score.

Go to this site for a good breakdown of numbers...

There are also plenty of guys here to give answers as well...
Basically you've got a 134 c.i. engine in a row crop tractor with 4 speed tranny and wide front end.

Steve,
You are correct but...
I'm pretty sure some off the others here will confirm this.
His is not your typical 701.
It should have a 5 speed.
All 700s and 701s were 4 speeds.
Ford didn't offer a 5 speed in those models.
Maybe they offered an SOS - Not sure about that.
If he has a 5 speed in his it's an oddball like I mention below.

Hmmm,
Am I correct in thinking the 7XXs only had 4 speeds?
Do you remember a couple of threads about the 7XXs
that were special built with 5 speeds? They were stamped differently. An extra letter or number maybe.

Yes, there was a post about them a while back. The 701 was offered as a 4-speed, not sure if the SOS was available or not. The 5-speed wasn't "officially" available, but there were a few built. I can't remember if they were stamped differently or not. But the -5 mentioned in the original post is just the suffix for a wide front. My 971 was a -5.
