Ford tractor

I have a new to me Ford tractor. I think the serial number is 9N5644. That would make it a 39 9N. Do the pictures below look like a 39
9N? The pto leaks so I ordered an oil seal. Will be the double lipped seal and the regular one work. Does the oil seal have to be pressed in and out of the housing or is there another way to do it?

There are some inconsistencies. The serial number only identifies the engine. In the case of your pics, I see two features that don't match - the oval radius rods (a 1939 would have come with I-beam rods) and the push button starter on the transmission (39 would be on dash.)

This page should help you with more info.

Hood has a hinged lid over the battery - 39 was a snap in cover. Fenders appear to only have one rib. 39 fenders had 2 ribs.

It appears to be a 42 or 43. You’re missing at least one digit in your serial number. It looks to be, from your photo, 105644. Oval radius rods, radiator cap, doglegs, starter switch, all different on a 1939. Also, your headlights look to be the smaller diameter ones that were fitted in later years. I’m sorry that I cannot answer your seal question, hopefully someone else will chime in.

No one answered your question. Search " replacing 8N PTO seal" on YouTube. lots of good videos that show how to do it. Works for all 9n.2n, and 8n tractors. You have to disassemble the bearing hosing to replace the seal. Be sure to have a large tub under the pto when you pull it out because most of the hydraulic fluid will come out.
