Ford TW5 II Dual Power Problem

Well guys my dads Tw-5 has had some problems with the Dual power slipping on the low side, and the transmission pressure light stays on constantly, and yes I put new filters on just a week ago.The light used to go off after about 800-1300 rpm.The tractor was flow rated last year in October when I put on a 3rd and 4th remote on the tractor.It tested within specifications of what the Ford Tw series repair manual said it should and it was NOT an I.T. manual that was used.So I know I should check the press. with a gauge first.Then go after the Dual Power.I think it just needs re sealed internally and some new plates for the low side.I am a mechanic and I have a degree in Diesel Technology (AG)so I want to know of anything that could be a hardship of doing this Dual Power myself if nessasary. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think you are confused about how the system works. How much time did you spend reading the manual?

The pump for the remote valves is NOT the low pressure system pump for the dual power/PTO circuit.

Those low pressure pumps are pretty reliable, as are the seals in the DP underdrive circuit. I've worked on more of those units than I care to remember, and I can tell you for a fact that I have never seen underdrive piston seals fail. I suspect contamination in the system regulating valve.

More studying of the manual is needed there before you jump to conclusions!

I don"t have a manual handy.I"d have to go to a local dealer to get the TW series manual.Iknow the Fords have 2 different pumps one for the transmission and hydraulics on the righ hand side of the tractor and one right next to the engine just above the flywheel.Yes clogs could be a problem.I am not ruling that out.But it shifts fine between low and high.The low side just slips.

You still don't get it. The other pump I am talking about is internal behind the transmission.

You need to borrow that manual and study it for a while before you jump to any more wrong conclusions.

Perform the low pressure hydraulic system pressure check and report back the results. I've never worked the the 5 series but I have done this test on the 9000 and TW30.

Yes the little mini gear pump on the bigger pump just behind the tranny.I know which one your talking about.

Nope, nope, nope!

The pump I'm talking about is bolted to the back of the trans. It is NOT piggybacked onto the main hydraulic pump. You are thinking pre-TW series tractors.

I'm tellin' ya man, get a manual and study it!
