Fordson Major

Our local farm newspaper, just started having online auctons. I am bidding on a fordson major, with a howard 16 spd tranny, creeper gear 48 hp and perkins diesel. It doesn't give year, or hours. Says blow by is minimal, or normal, and runs fine with tight steering, and good PTO, not plumbed for remotes as yet. Still waiting for reply on condition of brakes, and hauling weight. Probably will get outbid, but I think it would be a good tiller tractor. Aucton ends tomarrow evening at 8:00 pst (CapitolPressAucton.com)

"Fordson major," "48 hp and Perkins diesel" is it one of these things? Not plumbed for remotes does not surprise me because the hydraulics ( if fitted) on these OLD style Majors were pretty useless anyway.
E27N

I LOVE the Majors (own two of them) and they are a GREAT collectible tractor, but if you are going to work it and use it and keep it repaired it will get COSTLY in a hurry!

Not really, Roy! It does kinda likley looking, but somewhat more modern than the one in your picture. But what do I know, being as I haven't met one! Go to capitalpressaucton.com and look. they only have 3 tractors up for sale.

But the Perkins engine is bullet proof as long as you keep clean oil in it. Had one with over 15000 hours and never even burped.

Oh Good. When you said Perkins engine I thought you meant an E27N. Nothing wrong with the Perkins P6 but the rest of the tractor was pretty rubbish. The newer shape Majors are a totally different animal. The later Fordsons ( I mean the next model after the E27N ) was fitted with Ford's own engine, hence the confusion.
