Thanks for the reply. Why so much money.I was planning to do the rebuild myself.Hello Humps, welcome to the posting side of YT! This is probably the web site you want. Maybe more specifically the Fordson forum in the YT Manufactures section here is a link. YT Fordson forum The viewing traffic isn’t the highest there. What will probably be the most helpful to you is a repair manual, here is a link to the manual that YT sells for that tractor. YT Super Major repair manual or you can seek out other options. What is your plan for this tractor? Not sure if you realize this or not but by your description your are looking at a repair cost of about $3000 to rebuild that engine. That is a very minimum low ball number probably easily be more than that. Are you prepared to put that kind of money in it? May be best to search out a different working tractor that doesn’t have issues like this.
Ok thanks. The Fordson Super Major is a pretty decent tractor, but parts can be hard to come by. I think it came in both diesel and gas versions, so it would be helpful if you mention which one it is. As used red MN said, it might not be worth the time and expense to fix it. Blue smoke and clunking doesn't sound like an easy fix.
There is a gentleman posting on YT from the UK who goes by the handle Majorman who is very knowledgeable about these machines. If you have a specific question about your Super Major he probably knows the answer.
$3,000 isn't a lot for the parts and machine shop work that will be requiredThanks for the reply. Why so much money.I was planning to do the rebuild myself.
Ok thanks.
The Fordson Super Major was sold in the US as the Fordson Super Major with a blue hood during the 1961 and 1962 model years. It was sold as the Fordson Super Major 5000 during the 1963 and 1964 model years with a gray hood. The 1965 and newer 5000s are a completely different beast. The Fordson Super Major was sold as a Ford 5000 in the US if that helps in finding parts and manuals etc.
I did rebuild my Dad's about 4 yrs ago, Parts came from Agri-Line, pistons, liners, bearings, gaskets, everything I pretty much needed. It runs great! I was just running it here, checked for leaks and put the hood back on, not perfect but not bad either! Thanks mate.I would be interested but I live in Australia.
I'm thinking less than 2500$, that included having the block and pan hot tanked and checkedMany thanks Fred.
How much did you outlay?
Regards Stephen.
Just looked at Agriline, 212.79 British pound. liners, pistons, pins etcMr. Humps, I find the prices quoted here , too low even if you do most of the work ,tear down and assembly.
I do the same when I can tear down and assemble As you imply .
I find that the rework cost two to three times these estimates if a proper measure it done.
Just a thought to check
I recommend new or reconditioned oil pump after inspection .
If you’re not measuring ,your guessing. The amount money that will be spent your can’t afford to redo.
