Forum changes consider this!

Still sucks. I hate that you don't know if you have read the page or not. And seems like most of them are just repeated coming up to the top all the time like the 560 issue on IH forum. Nothing new, and as I try to look for new and updated posts they all seem the same as the day or week before . These places used to turn over fairly fast, and now seem like the same item is at the top and I never know if it is a new one or not. In Classic the read posts turned a different color so you knew if you had read it or not unless you didn't look at it for a week or so. Seems like it is just s blizzard with no direction to go. I tried some of the filters or whatever you call them and it didn't seem to help any either. I don't know just how long I maty hang around. Probably would please some if I did leave and some not like it.

That's all fine and dandy, but you don't take an Amish fella out from behind a horse and put him in a new tractor filled with electronics and expect him to run it like an expert just because he's been watching it across the fence row for a day. Guys who are tired of all the questions and problems need to remember who they're on here with and take a chill pill until we get the hang of this stuff. That said, I'm never gonna "like" not being able to see the thread like we could in Classic, but I guess that's my cross to bear.
I agree 100% , Randy!

I guess it's like death and taxes Cat Guy ..... like you, I am surviving but the old Classic used to be clearer to me for whatever reasons, not sure I could even list them out to be honest. The discussion forum programs are made by other outfits and of course sold to organizations like YT but I think there is still a lot of leeway as to how they are finally presented to their audience by YT, etc. Long story short, it looks like the old Modern View finally won out. Oh well, nobody said it was gonna be easy. Take it or leave it right? 😞😞😞

Is there a way to mark which threads you have read. I read soeveral forums each day and the next day can't remember where I left off. The old forums had it marked where you left off. Thanks

Where is this "YT icon" you're clicking on?
Try clicking on the YT icon/logo that appears on every YT page.
See where it goes, then you will discover something new.

It is likely a shortcut that you created, or was created for you. It points to the main page of the website, which is still as it always has been.

You would need to modify that shortcut or create a new one that goes directly to the forums, but that will depend on what you have.

No need to scroll to the bottom. Right below the section on the left with photo ads and classifieds is a section called "Community." The first link there is Discussion Forums, which brings you to the forum.
funny but I prefer going to the old page scrolling down to click on forums. The forums page is just a little busy for me. to each his own. I will muddle ahead as I have always done, whether its wrenching on a tractor or seeking help from here or youtube. Btw, the icon was a shortcut to the site that is on my desk top. It recently changed it a bit since the ownership transfer.

If you go to the Site Comments category, you will see various things that other users are whining about.
With answers too.!

P.S. your complaints above are on admins list of things to tweek. So that each user can make filtering choices the default for you throughout the forum.
You do not have to manually mark anything as read. IF you do not use the back button.
Use the category name shown above the thread title near the top and at the bottom of thread before the "Similar Threads" listed.
Then what you have read or posted in will no longer show as NEW and will also no longer have a bold title.

DonB, I am not sure if Double07 is answering you or someone else. His reply does not make sense to me as applying to “marking posts that you have read” However, it seems different devices show different screen layouts say a PC vs a tablet vs a phone. A feature of the new software is that the moderators can move threads or topics to different locations (forums or topic sections) After the change to the new software the forums were full of topics about “I hate this about the forum, can I make it work more like it used to” The moderators moved most of those threads to “Site Comments” forum. There is currently a Topic there about “marking read posts” I would also recommend browsing through the other topics there to help you enjoy the functionality of this new forum layout. If you skip past all the “negative Nancy” replies you can glean through them fairly quickly.

In the last 10 years or so I think the programmers have forgotten to look at their creations from the concept of usability.

Yes, the site has a fresh new look, but can you get to what you want faster and easier than before? How intuitive is the site and can the average user get to what they want with little or no help? How many mouse clicks or selections do you have to make to get to what you want?

The new site has a fresh new look but the old site seemed to give me what I was looking for faster with less clutter (stuff I don't need to see).

Your thoughts ???

The change over was not done just so it all would look cluttered or different from the old software.
The old software was so hacked up and held together with hopes and prayers, it may have crashed at any moment.
And EVERY post made ever would be gone forever.
So they bought commercially available forum software that is available to any website.
NONE that are up to date by the current forum software developers are offered to resemble the old software.
So YT made a choice, what you see is what we are stuck with for the future.
Kim and Chris are working nearly 24/7 to address the issues some users are not happy with.
Not possible to make everybody happy, but they are tweeking the software to please many.
Got be patient and remember this is a free forum.

Well said. Seems to me the administrators are bending over backwards trying to please the complainers.

I hope they appreciate it and will try to adapt. Some seem hellbent on being stubborn.

Me thinks that some of these folks don't look at any other webpages whatsoever. Hence, they can't or won't adapt to what the rest of us have seen for years.
True, and appreciate the administrators for trying as hard as they did.

But the usability point is still valid and across the software industry -- just look at windows -- did it get easer to use or more difficult to use over the years.

15 years ago I observed some usability studies when selecting a software package and witnessed how implementing usability as a design criteria made their product better and easier to use. This isn't something the ytmag administrators can do its the software vendor.

I think the software industry forgot a lot of what they learned regarding human interaction with computers. I've adapted to the site as we all have to.

I kinda think also that these software companies have to keep updating, adding to, change up, ad new bells and whistles, etc.
They do not and can not create the perfect program and thus put them out of a job.

I will just say this to the naysayers about the changes. The main topic of our discussion is “tractors” Tractors have definitely been changed and updated over time. A 1940 tractor has many improvements over a 1900-1910 tractor? Same for the 1940 model to a 1960 model. And obviously a 2023 model compared to a 1960 is a larger change yet. Through all this the farmers/operators learned how to adapt to utilize the new features. In my opinion the same applies here. Please do not immediately turn your nose up and see a road block. Take your time ask questions and observe, we will all move forward together and continue to enjoy what the members as a whole along with the support folks have made this forum, A PLACE TO ENJOY A COMMON INTEREST!!!
Too many people believe change for the sake of change is inherently good. Just saying.
