found a sure fire cure for selectospeed

Loaded her up and taking it to auction! I will stick to working on my old Olivers. There aint nothing close to this messed up selectospeed on any of them. A friend and I spent, I mean wasted too much time on this thing allready and still cant get it to back up. Told them at auction house to be sure to say no reverse so hopefully whoever is crazy enough to buy it knows what they are getting into. Probably wont get much for it, but I am pretty sure I wont live long enough to get the time to fix it, so its gone.

Should have conceit over to a manual. Donor tractors are relatively inexpensive.

It's a shame for your sake that you posted : I saw that 4000 coming and was strongly thinking about bidding on it. I didn't realize it was one of yours. If you haven't been able to fix it yet, than it's surely beyond anything I want to tackle. I've worked on a few select-o-speeds, but usually it's been only a case of incorrect adjustment on the bands. If it were the later style of 4000 I know of a good donor tractor with a standard tranny and rear end. But those early 4000's were a different animal - I don't believe there was any commonality between them and the later thousand series.

It would probably make a good donor tractor as under 3000 hours on working tach. Prettty sure it needs something more than band/pressure adjustments as I went thru all the settings a few times over, pulled top off tranny and took valve out and checked,reset by the book. Got it to go ahead, but still no reverse. It does have good rubber on it, and the power steering works great. I just hope whoever buys it realizes it is not a working tractor.

The early 4000 sos was much like the earlier 801 transmission but Ford has changed the overrunning clutch to direct to eliminate the free wheeling issue in some gears
That one is to far away for us, we have a low hour 63-64 4000 sos in storage, but would probably just to a 5 spd conversation if the tractor was worth saving

Thanks for the reply. I thought you were sorta near NY but I guess I will let that one pass. Bad time of year to be on road and dealing with border crossing pretty well kills bidding on it.
