Fox 2310 Chopper

My dad has a Fox 2310 that he bought almost new years ago, now he wants to sell it. It has a hay head but no corn head. Are these machines worth anything anymore? It still works good and will handle up to 150hp but he quit farming a few years ago and has no use for it. Just wondering what its worth.

Probably here in the Finger Lakes not much as everybody is pretty much JD or NH with Gehl out of the forage equipment business. Don from Wisconsin will be along at some point and he may have a different perspective along with others. I can understand not having the chopper go for scrap if you can find somebody that really wants it to use it.

Choppers are pretty cheap around Eastern Iowa. The livestock is really drying up and any cattle lots are using Deere self propelled and even those are fewer and far between. Haven"t seen many Foxes sold lately but some Gehls that were pretty solid wouldn"t bring much and a one I saw sell last year that was 2 years old wouldn"t even bring one third of it"s original sticker price. Pretty sad how things are moving along.

They don't seem to bring much these days. I have wondered, if you were to slow the feeding rolls down, if they would make a great branch and brush chopper...

They just don't bring much (even here in WI where they were built)... mostly due to a lack of dealer support and parts availability. Might be worth more in some area. (where are you?) The price of Gehl choppers has followed suit in the last year or so. It's too bad - Fox had some good choppers. I run a 4310 and a 5084 flail myself. So far, I've been able to get any parts I need from Hiniker out of Minneapolis, MN.

They're just not worth much, mainly becasue Fox has been gone frso long now. They are some really nice machines and parts can be had yet, but it's getting to the point where it's hard to justify fixing a 30 year old chopper. Gehl is heading the same way and will be in the same position in not too long.

Kinda sad, as both were built in Wisconsin, and Fox was built less than 20 miles from my home farm.

Our Fox 3000 is still going strong, but it needs new knives. Hard ot justify spending more on knives than it's worth, but you can't replace it for that cost, so sooner or later we'll get new knives for it. It's probably 20 years older than our neighbor's Gehl, but ours did a much better job chopping corn when we bought some from them. Part of it was maintnance issues, but it really is a shame that Fox is out of the picture.
