Geeze, that's better than Hermie's. When ya plannin' on rewire, and fire him up????? Don't need the chargin' system, just ignition wires.
I'll bet that thing will run good!!!!
GREAT buy!!!!

I need to get a resistor. Too much work to get the one off my 9N. His distributor was in excellent condition. Put in new points and condenser. He was missing the coil but I have a spare laying around. Wish I didn't sell my spare carb. That was all he was missing. Ill fire him up in the next week or so. Need to rig some kinda gas tank for the test fire. I'm going to have a look at the governor now. Need spark plugs to. All the near by auto part stores were closed today. Plus I need to get the front axle support back on so I can put a radiator on.

Wow that is great compression! You will have him running soon!

Mine has went up 15 pounds since January. Looks like I may need rings and valve job.

Joe,
His compression may improve too. Who knows how long it has been since he last ran... I am going to need some info on your gas tank setup...Just for temporary running purposes. Not sure I wanna mess with the tin  On the other hand maybe I can fix it  Looks like it had a braze job on the hood already...

So you going to rebuild the engine? Might as well before you put the tin back on...

Sean,
I used an old go-kart gas tank I already had. I used some channel left over from mounting my garage door opener, and made a wooden perch for it to sit on. I use a small surgical type c-clamp to shut off the gas.

I may leave my hood off all year :-)

Who knows about the rebuild, I may drag the 44 out of the barn and see what condition it is in. I hate to put more money into the 42 since I am right at 5K now. I am glad I got a deal like you did on my 44, it kind of evens things out :-)

Ever since you posted the pic of the cylinders, the valves, how clean they looked, and the manifold studs that came out, I have been pretty confident that it would work as is.

Still, until we hear it run, we are NOT out of the woods yet, even with compression.

I am still fairly comfortable at this point that it will run, if it hasn't been ran without oil, or with water in the oil, the oil pickup tube busted, etc...

Hopefully my feelings on it are right.

If you put a wrench (ok, a pull handle and a socket) on the bolt on front of the engine, on the pulley, and slightly rock it back and forth, do you hear any bumps?

To good to part out Jeff. The tin can be replaced. Im trying to save the air cleaner. The pipe is pretty rusted. I think ill JB weld the pits and holes and call it good. Rust is pretty well gone. I have had it in a electrolysis tank for a week.. The rest of the air cleaner is good. Had a pretty good coat of oil to preserve it :) I left the old head studs in and reused the old head bolts. It had one over size bolt must have had bad threads. so far all I bought was a gasket set from napa. It included a governor gasket so I pulled that today. No gasket on it just some high temp glue

Long live the old IRON

Ill have to get a pic of the acorn nut on the steering wheel....It is all but rusted away. Ill have to split it to remove it

awesome!!

Im gonna have to drive out and see it with me own eyes here pretty soon. I'll bring some beer. :D

I got one more weekend of hard work on building my new cactus garden beds, and will have some spare time. got some good seat time with the box blade the last two weekends. ordering a truckload of crushed granite this week, will be spreading it this weekend.

Come on over...May be 2 weeks before im ready to fire Fred up...I have the dash in a electrolysis tank right now. Think the steering colum is going in the tank next. Sure is a easy way to clean rusty metal...

All the guages went in the trash.
I need at the very least a working oil gauge before I start him. Need a temporary gas tank to. Sure is ugly!!! But they all clean up nice...Another N saved from the scrap pile..

Air cleaner is cleaning up nicely. Just the intake pipe is pitted and has holes in it. Im going to JB weld it...

I am going to keep this thread alive...Fred started without much trouble...Took the carb off my 9n for the test run...No gas tank just the gas in the carb :(

well it is time to start fixing him up..Still need to get a temp gauge...Looks like they used a torch to cut a hole for the temp. gauge LOL a gauge will cover the crude hole they cut.

Today I stopped my 8N in the yard after plowing, I cut off the gas, as I normally do when I stop it.

An hour or so later, I figgered out that I had done all of the tractor werk that I was gonna do today.

My shop, where the *she* the '49 8N lives, is at least 300 feet from where she was sitting, I cranked her, and forgot to turn the gas on.

She was safely in the shop, and cut off, when I got off and went to cut the gas off, and found out that I had never turned it on for that trip.
