Free wheeling question

I tried to tow my 585X JD mower into the garage from the back yard (and I switched the lever that allows it to be towed (I call it free wheeling not sure of correct terminology) and the darn from wheels were locked up.....what gives?

Even when shifted out of 4WD?

Sometimes the release will stick and not let it go into "tow mode" or freewheeling. Did you have the parking brake released?
