Freeze Plug Question

I would like to install a block heater in my 1972, Ford 2000, 3 cylinder, gas.

Maybe I"m going blind but I can"t find the freeze plug. Does anyone know where it is located on this model?

Thanks for your help.

I don't know for sure, as luckily I haven't needed to find it on my 3 cylinder 4000, but I thought that I saw one on the right hand side (as you sit on the tractor) of the engine block near the carb or the starter. Does yours have trouble starting in cold weather? Mine starts on the first crank every time with no block heater, as long as you use the choke. The choke on those 3 cylinder gas models is needed even in warm weather because of the updraft style of carburetor that they have. The choke is used almost as a vacuum to help suck the fuel up through the carb. As soon as mine starts I have to push the choke back in quick, halfway in cold weather or all of the way in warm weather. I even have to pull the choke out a quarter to halfway to restart it after it's warmed up sometimes.

Sean, I think you are correct. Took a quick look
this afternoon and the plug appears to be tucked
behind the coil, off to the side to the carb. I
will need to get out the tool box this weekend and
take a closer look.

Yes, the darn thing is temperature sensitive
despite much messing around with new coil,
installing electronic ignition, new wires, new
carb, etc. Starts right up in warm weather but
cranks like the devil when the temp goes below
freezing.

Our "65 does the same thing when it gets cold but it"s also showing its age in the compression department. When it gets to mid-20"s, I"ll often take a heat gun to the intake pipe just in front of the carb, warm the length of it up (not the rubber connector). Yes, am careful of lighting up gas fumes, always have a big extinguisher right there, don"t point it at the carb, and don"t do it if I"ve flooded it.
